International Hospitality Management

Understand the key concepts and issues in Tourism, Hospitality and Events (T.H.E) from an interrelated, local, national and global perspective. The module will enable you to evaluate, compare and contrast the scope of the T.H.E industries whilst understanding the operational characteristics and the importance of each theme within a contemporary context. You'll develop an understanding of the major themes of Tourism, Hospitality and Events facilitated via field visits to T.H.E organisations in and around Preston.

This module aims to introduce you to the theory, practices and techniques of effective customer service and the achievement of service excellence in Tourism, Hospitality and Events. You'll blend the module themes to develop a range of knowledge, skills and experiences relevant to customer service in order to work effectively in a variety of front-line customer-focused environments. Particular emphasis is placed on professionalism, personal and interpersonal abilities and the pragmatism of customer service in dynamic and customer-centric organisations.

This module aims to equip you with the study skills necessary at entry level for academic studies. You'll complete an academic literature review by means of study, facilitated by the module leader and support tutor(s) in order to enhance knowledge in your chosen area of interest. Completion of this module will prepare you to make effective use of learning opportunities in other modules of study and in the workplace.

This module aims to raise your awareness of the impact of business in the U.K, investigate business in the news and develop an awareness of the global business context.

Develop key skills in scholarship, research and learning technology to aid your academic studies. Using relevant themes as a basis, you'll develop oral, presentation, debating, academic writing and research skills. The module will equip you with a complete ‘toolkit’ of academic, personal and professional skills.

This module aims to develop your understanding of the contemporary landscape of business. You'll examine the internal and external environment of business and define the key issues that are impacting on business.

Understand the scale and the scope of the global hospitality industry, and the major influencing factors. The module aims to provide you with an introduction to the industry, teaching you the knowledge, skills and techniques involved in managing within the global hospitality industry.

This module will provide you with the opportunity to develop the professional skills necessary to be successful in Tourism, Hospitality and Events while demonstrating confidence and competence within a simulated and live industry situation/environment.

This module provides the underpinning knowledge and skills development opportunities related to the delivery of successful experience systems within Tourism, Hospitality and Event (THE) organisations. Significantly, you will acknowledge that managers, staff and customers together co-create experiences within individual service contexts. These contexts include physical, technological, informational, social and legal environments.

This module will prepare you for the implications of working in hospitality and venue operations. You will develop an underpinning knowledge of legislation relating to, but not limited to: Health and Safety, Food hygiene, GDPR, Fire safety through the introduction of active and passive fire safety training, First aid, Human trafficking and Employment law protection (including race, ethnicity, and disability).

You will learn about the current issues and influencing factors affecting the global hospitality industry. This includes market entry, growth strategies and risks in the current climate. You'll learn about the unique challenges that the sector faces, like international branding and cross-cultural customer experience. You'll also consider practical issues like managing an international workforce, staff shortages and skills gaps.

You'll engage in 100 hours of work-related activities and events. This will give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge to the real world and develop your skills. You'll record your activities in a reflective account, applying theories, behaviour and knowledge.

Learn to articulate the global meetings industry's social, cultural, legal, and political impacts and economic importance. During this module, you'll develop an appreciation of a range of issues relating to the delivery of high-quality business events. As well as the exploration of current global trends relating to the management and operations of the largest sector of the Event Industry.

This module provides an opportunity to engage in a critical multi-disciplinary exploration of current and future hospitality themes, issues, and cases. Ensuring you understand real-world links between conceptual issues and empirical application.

The independent study project allows you to study a topic of your choice which is related to your areas of study. You'll work independently, to develop and demonstrate your academic skills and abilities. The project will involve the gathering and analysis of secondary data within the context of current academic theory.

The aim of this module is to consolidate managing yourself, managing others, and managing a business. You'll evaluate your own competencies in a range of areas associated with work within tourism, hospitality and event management. And explore the theory and practice of business strategy through innovation and creativity within a corporate setting. You'll engage with external organisations to help you to develop transferable skills and abilities to work on managerial strategies.

Gain an in-depth and critical understanding of the business management issues involved in managing quality in service organisations. You'll critically analyse the tools, techniques and approaches for achieving service quality within the contemporary business landscape. The module develops and informs the necessary professional skills needed for industry settings.

This module allows you to study a niche, yet important component of global tourism. Dark tourism is the act of travel to sites of or places associated with death, disaster or difficult heritage. It provides an opportunity for you to become well-grounded and socially responsible managers of potential local, national, or international dark tourism sites, attractions, and exhibitions.

During this module you'll work independently, to develop and demonstrate your academic skills and abilities. The module will normally be based on a topic related to your degree and will demonstrate the use of primary and secondary data collection techniques. You'll provide a logical rationale for the study, which will be supported by detailed methodology, findings, and analysis sections.

The module aims to provide you with opportunities to visit an overseas destination so you can explore its tourism, hospitality and events. You'll learn experientially so you can apply your knowledge of international destination development and the visitor economy to a particular case study.
